Amapiano Artists Nominated At The SAMA Awards. Finally the nominees for the 2021 South African Music Awards have been announced. For 27 years, the SAMAs have been shining the spotlight on local music and honouring achievement. Although the 2021 SAMAs will take place during a difficult time for the music industry – like other sectors, it has been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, music has been one thing that probably kept most sane.
Amapiano is a relatively South African originated music genre. Initially, when the genre started gaining popularity in 2017, amapiano was known for its fanciful (often minutes long piano solos). However, new and established producers have since been revolutionising the sound to make it sound as it does today. Amapiano has a vibrant mix of deep house, kwaito, jazz, gospel-inspired keyboards and traditional percussion. It’s fun, funky and impossibly cool that the world cannot resist to jam on it.
The growth of amapiano keen ears and consumption has made amapiano undeniably worth being recognised. The anticipation to see who will win has is much higher after the nominations were announced. Check out the list:
