How DJ Jaivane and DJ Stokie Met. Although so many people have different opinions of who is the original creators of amapiano sound, when one think of amapiano thy think of DJ Jaivane and Stokie, or at least their huge role in popularizing amapiano genre. Even though DJ Stokie says he heard the sound from another group of DJs, it does not change the fact that he together with DJ Jaivane played a major role in introducing the sound to the public.

The duo both come a long way and their journey together is actually interesting. DJs Jaivane and Stokie already knew each other, and they both appreciated the work the other was doing from a distance until they met for the first time at a Danish pub in Soweto. According to Stokie, the music industry can be deceptive, and one has to be careful with who he allows into his life. However, DJ Jaivane has certainly proven to be a brother, and these two have built a brotherhood more than a friendship over the years.

“Before meeting at Danish pub in Soweto where we were regular DJs, we had heard about each other and we were fans of each other’s craft. In other instances, I would save him when he was overbooked, I would have to play an extra set because he was late or couldn’t pitch,” DJ Stokie said.

The duo has come a long way, and after many years of hard work and partnership, booking any of them for just an hour would cost up to R5 000. In 2019, DJ Jaivane and Stokie went on a tour playing their sets. The duo became so intentional about resting considering they work so hard. They decided that Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays were strictly resting days. No doubt their hard work has paid off, as now they have become part of the pioneers of amapiano, and no party can ever be complete without playing a song or two from their mixes.
